SRM University Grading System 2018 Choice Based Flexible Credit System passing marks BTech

Regulations for Choice Based Flexible Credit System,  Passing Marks for Undergraduate Bachelor’s degree courses applicable from 2018-19 

B.Tech. course (all programmes) in the faculty of Engineering and Technology, Kancheepuram (TN)

A pass in the 10+2 (Higher Secondary) examination

Qualification in SRM Joint Entrance Examination – Engineering (SRMJEEE)  conducted by the SRM University.

BTech Degree programme is of 8 semesters (four years duration). Max duration for completion 12 semesters (six years)

Evaluation

Theory Paper/ Practical

50% marks for Continuous Learning Assessment (CLA)

50% marks for final exam

The assessment method for the project work consists of in-semester and end semester evaluations as detailed below:

50% marks for Continuous Learning Assessment (CLA) (Review1-5%, Review2-20%, Review3-25%)

50% marks for final exam (Project report 20%, Viva Voce 30%)

Attendance

a minimum of 75% attendance  in individual courses, exclusive of leave of absence due to medical reasons, on-duty, extra-curricular / extramural activities, permitted assignments such as job interviews, unforeseen emergencies etc. Condonation of Attendance (Exemption) up to a maximum of 10% for valid reasons including medical issues.  

A candidate is required to score a minimum of 50% of the total normalized marks secured in both the continuous learning assessments and the end-semester final examination

Students who successfully complete the B.Tech. programme within the time duration of 8 semesters  

CGPA ≥ 4 & < 5.5 Pass

CGPA ≥ 5.5 & < 6 Second Class

CGPA ≥ 6.0 & < 8.0 First Class

CGPA ≥ 8  First Class with Distinction (without F or I or temporary withdrawal in any Semester)

CGPA ≥ 8  First Class (with F or I in any Semester but obtained pass grade (O to P) subsequently)

Students who cannot complete the B.Tech. program in 8 semesters but complete it successfully within the time duration of 9 semesters

CGPA ≥ 4.0 & < 5.5 Pass

CGPA ≥ 5.5 & < 6.0 Second Class

CGPA ≥ 6.0 First Class

Students who cannot complete the B.Tech. program in 9 semesters but complete it successfully within the time duration of 12 semesters

CGPA ≥ 4.0 & < 5.5 Pass

CGPA ≥ 5.5 Second Class

For the award of B.Tech. Degree, a student has to acquire a maximum of 160 learning credits

The internal marks awarded to the students are first normalized and combined with the normalized marks of end-semester final examination. Subsequently letter grades are awarded for the normalized marks as indicated in the table
