SPPU Savitribai Phule Pune University UG credit grading system engineering applicable from June 2015 is explained here:

Each B.E. / B. Tech. programme is of 4 years (8 semesters) duration. The minimum total no. of credits requirement by a student for  completion of programme is 190. In the structure, the credits are distributed over eight semesters.

SPPU Examination Scheme

The theory examination for 1st and 2nd year (Semester 1, 2, 3 and 4)

It shall be conducted in three phases for all the subjects. The Phase- one and Phase- two exam shall be part of in-semester exam and Phase- three shall be a part of end-semester exam.

FE and SE

Phase I Exam shall be an Online examination of 25 marks, ½ hours duration. Questions will be asked from Unit 1 and unit 2 of the subjects containing objective- multiple choice questions (MCQ) and fill in the blanks.

Phase II shall be an Online examination of 25 marks, ½ hours duration. Questions will be asked from Unit 1 and unit 2 of the subjects containing objective- multiple choice questions (MCQ) and fill in the blanks.

Phase III shall be a Written examination of 50 marks, 2 hours duration. Questions will be asked from all the six units. Examination shall be conducted at the end of semester.

All the three phases of the examination conducted as per the schedule of the university.

The third semester ( first semester of SE ) Phase 1 and Phase 2 will be conducted together in view of the the direct second year admissions.

The theory examination for 2nd and 3rd year (Semester 5, 6, 7 and 8)

TE and BE

Phase I shall be a Theory examination of 30 marks, 60/90 minutes duration. Questions will be asked from  unit I ,unit II and unit III of the subject,

Phase II shall be a Theory examination of 70 marks, 150/180 minutes duration. Questions will be asked from all the units of the subject. This examination shall be conducted at the end of semester.

These two phases of the examination shall be conducted as per the schedule of the university.

The practical examination for Fundamentals of Programming Languages- I and Fundamentals of Programming Languages-II, shall be conducted online at the end of respective semesters. This examination shall be for 50 marks and 1 hour duration.

In Phase 1 and phase 2 examination of Engineering Graphics one shall be conducted in manual mode, Which shall be of 1 hour duration as per the schedule given by the University.

Structure of Question Paper Engineering SPPU

For FE and SE:

The questions asked shall be objective type with multiple choice or fill in the blanks. The weightage for each question shall be of one or two marks based on the difficulty level. ·

The questions asked in phase III written examination shall be Fundamental, Mathematical and analytical. Every question will have an internal option. Unitwise weightage is given below:

  • Weightage for unit I & unit II:  25%
  • Weightage for unit III & unit IV:  25%
  • Weightage for unit V:  25%
  • Weightage for unit VI:  25%

For TE and BE

Phase I shall be a Theory examination of 30 marks. Questions will be asked from  unit I ,unit II and unit III of the subject. This shall be an in-semester examination. Question of 10 marks will be asked from each unit.

Phase II shall be a Theory examination for 70 marks. The questions from first 3 units will have weightage of 20 marks. Questions from units four, five and six will have weightage of 50 marks. This will be an end-semester examination. Question Paper will have only one section and five questions shall be asked.

SPPU Assessment and Grade Point Average

A grade is assigned to each head based on marks obtained by a student in examination of the course. The marks obtained in in-semester and end-semester examination are considered together to calculate the grade of the course. These grades, their equivalent grade points are given here.

SPPU Pune University B Tech calculation of SGPA & CGPA

Passing Grade – A candidate securing any one of O, A, B, C, D, E grades in a course shall be declared as pass.

F Grade -The grade F is a failure grade. The student securing F grade will have to pass the concerned course by re-appearing for the examination.

AP Grade -The student registered for auditing a course shall be awarded the grade AP, provided student has the minimum attendance as prescribed by the SPPU and satisfactory in-semester performance and secured a passing grade in that course. No grade points are assigned to this grade.

FX Grade-The grade FX in a course is awarded by the college, if a student does not maintain the minimum attendance in the Lecture / Tutorial class as prescribed by the Savitribai Phule Pune University and/or his performance during the semester is not satisfactory and/or he/she fails in the Term Work head of that course.

The student with FX grade in a given course is not permitted to take the end of semester examination in that course. Such a student will have to re-register for the course.

Grade II (incomplete) -Grade ll shall be awarded to a candidate in a course in which he has the minimum attendance as prescribed by the University and satisfactory in-semester performance but could not appear for the end-semester examination. Such a student will have to appear in the subsequent end-semester examination.

PP / NP Grade -The non-credit courses, such as Practical Training, Communication Skill, Field Visit Courses etc. shall be awarded PP/NP grades. No grade points are associated with these grades.
