KL UNIVERSITY CALCULATION OF SGPA AND CGPA: We know that

Grade : It gives the performance of the students in a course and denoted by alphabets A++, A, B+, etc.
Grade Point : Numerical weight assigned to each letter grade on a 10 – point scale.
Credit : The number of ‘Contact Hours’ of a teacher with the students in a week of a particular course gives its credit value. For theory one lecture hour per week is equal to one credit. Similarly, for tutorials/ self-learning/ practical/ field work, two hours per week is equal to one credit.
Credit point : It is the product of grade point and number of credits for a course.

Semester grade point average (SGPA): The semester grade point average (SGPA) is calculated by dividing the sum of credit points secured from all subjects/ courses registered in a semester, by the total number of credits registered during that semester.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) : It is a measure of cumulative performance of a student over all the completed semesters. The CGPA is the ratio of total credit points secured by a student in various courses in all semesters and the sum of the total credits of all courses in all the semesters. It is expressed up to two decimal places.

SGPA (S i) = Σ(C i x G i) / ΣC i
where ‘Ci’ = number of credits of the ith course and

‘Gi’ = grade point scored by the student in the ith course.

CGPA = Σ(Ci x Si) / Σ Ci
where ‘S’i = SGPA of the ith semester and

‘Ci’ = total number of credits in that semester.

The SGPA and CGPA shall be rounded off to 2 decimal points.
