JNTUA Engineering College Academic Regulations 2015 (R15) for B. Tech Applicable for the students admitted in the Academic Year 2015-2016

Credit: These are the number of hours of instructions required per week per semester. JNTUA credits are as follows:

  • One hour of teaching (lecture or tutorial) = 01 credit
  • Three hours of practical work/field work per week = 02 credits
  • 12 hours of project work per week= 08 credits
  • Comprehensive examination and seminar shall have 01 and 02 credits respectively.

JNTUA BTech Internal & External Marks:

The performance of a student in each semester shall be evaluated subject-wise as follows:
Theory 100 marks:
40 marks for Internal Evaluation + 60 marks for the External Evaluation

  • Theory internal evaluation marks are further divided as
  • 30 marks – 2 Mid term examination (Final Internal marks for a total of 30 marks shall be arrived at by considering 70% weightage to the better internal exam and 30% to the other.)
  • 10 marks – awarded by faculty on the basis of assignments, mini project, seminar
  • For the subject having design and / or drawing, such as Engineering Drawing, Machine Drawing and Estimation – 20 marks for day-to-day work and 20 marks for 02 midterm test (Average of 2 test)

Practical 100 marks

  • 40 marks for Internal Evaluation – Day-to-day work in the laboratory shall be evaluated.
  • 60 marks for the External Evaluation

Seminar 100 marks in 4th year II Semester. In order to pass in seminar student should get minimum 40% marks.
Project work 200 marks, start in 4th year I semester, Evaluated in 4th year second semester end examination. These marks are divided as

  • 80 marks for Internal Evaluation
  • 120 marks for the End Semester Examination (Viva-voce)

The comprehensive examination for the award of 01 credit: Four Comprehensive Objective Type Examinations, one each with 100 objective questions for 100 marks shall be conducted at the end of 2nd year I semester, 2nd year II semester, 3rd year I semester and 3rd year II semester. The duration of the examination would be for 2 hours. A student shall get 01 credit, only when he/she secures 40% or more marks in the examination. If a student fails in the comprehensive examination, he/she shall reappear for the examination.

JNTUA B Tech. Attendance Rules

The student is required to have a minimum of 75% of attendance in aggregate of all the subjects in a semester, otherwise, he will not be allowed to appear for end examinations.
Condonation of shortage of attendance in aggregate up to 10% in each semester may be granted by the College Academic Committee.
A student will not be promoted to the next semester unless he satisfies the attendance requirements of the present semester, as applicable. They may seek readmission for that semester when offered next.

JNTUA R 15 BTech Promotion Rules For Regular Students

The following academic requirements have to be satisfied:

A student should secure minimum 35% of marks in the end examination separately and a minimum of 40% of marks in (internal evaluation + end examination).

Promotion from 2nd year to 3rd year: A student shall get promotion from 2nd to 3rd year only if he/she secure 41 credits (50%) of the subjects that have been studied up to 2nd year I semester from

  • Two regular and one supplementary examinations of 1st year I semester
  • One regular and one supplementary examination of 1st year II semester
  • One regular examination of 2nd year I semester

Promotion from 3rd year to 4th year: A student shall be promoted from 3rd year to 4th year only if he secures 70 credits (50%) of the subjects that have been studied up to 3rd year I semester from the following examinations

  • Three regular and two supplementary examinations of I year I semester.
  • Two regular and two supplementary examinations of I year II semester.
  • Two regular and one supplementary examination of II year I semester.
  • One regular and one supplementary examination of II year II semester.
  • One regular examination of III year I semester.

JNTUA R 15 BTech Promotion Rules For Lateral Entry Students

The following MINIMUM academic requirements have to be satisfied:

A student should secure minimum 35% of marks in the end examination separately and a minimum of 40% of marks in (internal evaluation + end examination).

Promotion from 3rd year to 4th year: A student shall be promoted from 3rd year to 4th year only if he/she secure 43 credits (50%) of the subjects that have been studied up to III year I semester from

  • Two regular and one supplementary examination of II year I semester
  • One regular and one supplementary examination of II year II semester.
  • One regular examination of III year I semester

Grade Point: It is a numerical weight allotted to each letter grade on a 10-point scale.

Letter Grade: It is an index of the performance of students in a said course. Grades are denoted by letters.

The grades to be used and their numerical equivalents are as under :

Award of B.Tech. Degree

JNTUA student shall be eligible for the award of the B.Tech. degree if following academic requirements are fulfilled:

  • Regular entry students shall complete a course of study for minimum 04 academic years and in maximum 08 academic years. However, Lateral entry students shall complete a course of study for minimum 03 academic years and in maximum 06 academic years
  • Regular entry students shall register and secure 224 credits.
  • Lateral entry students shall register and secure 170 credits.

Completing the course of study shall mean the passing of all the subjects and acquiring required number of credits within the respective stipulated period along with satisfying the attendance requirements.

Gap – Year

JNTUA students who want to pursue entrepreneurship are allowed to take a break of one year at any time after 1st year/2nd year / 3rd year II semester to pursue entrepreneurship full time. This period may be increased to two years at the most and these two years would not be counted for the maximum time for graduation. Proposal submitted by the students will be evaluated by the evaluation committee.

  1. I was suffered from fever and stomach ache due to food poison, So they detained for the 2nd year 1st Sem.
    Then is there any ways to get promote for second sem?
    Please help me on this, my rest of the life is depend on my B.Tech carrier.
