The Directorate General of Shipping – India has four Indian Institute of Maritime Studies IIMS for providing shipping training in India. Each Indian Institute of Maritime Studies offers pre and post sea training programme to cadets. Following are four Indian Institute of Maritime Studies:

• Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai
• Training Ship Chanakya, Navi Mumbai
• Lal Bahadur Sashtri College of Advanced Maritime Studies & Research

Marine Engineering and Research Institute Kolkata

MERI Kolkata

The Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI) now Directorate of Marine Engineering Training (DMET) was started in 1949 at Kolkata and a branch at Mumbai for imparting marine training.
The MERI conducts 4 year Marine Engineering degree program. The admission is based on Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by Indian Institutes of Technology.
The degree in marine engineering issued by marine engineering & research institute is approved as graduation certificate by Ministry Of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and approved by AICTE. The Institution of Engineers India Limited also recognize it and exempt to qualify their A & B examination.

Marine Engineering & Research Institute  Mumbai

MERI Mumbai

The Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI) was established in 1949 at Mumbai with its Headquarters at Kolkata. The institute provides one year training programme i.e. Trainee Marine Engineering (TME) course to graduates in mechanical engineering. The total number of seats available  is 105.

Training Ship Chanakya – Navi Mumbai

The Training Ship Chanakya offers three year degree course in shipping training – B.Sc. in Nautical Sciences.

The Training Ship Chanakya, Navi Mumbai IS ALSO  known as TS Chanakya.

Lal Bahadur Sashtri College of Advanced Maritime Studies & Research

The Lal Bahadur Sashtri College of Advanced Maritime Studies & Research GIVES post sea maritime education and training for Merchant Navy Officers.

The Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Advanced Maritime Studies and Research was started in 1948 at Mumbai.
