Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) Lucknow has adopted Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from the Session: 2016-17. Following are the salient features of the system for Undergraduate Course B. Arch.

DURATION OF COURSE
Total duration of the B.Arch Degree Course shall be 5 years, each year comprising of two semesters. Each semester shall normally have teaching for the 90 working days.
KEYWORDS
Letter Grade (letters A, B, C, D, E and F) is an index of the performance of students.
Grade Point is a numerical weightage (from 1 to 10) allotted to each letter grade.
One credit is equivalent to one hour of teaching (lecture or tutorial) or two hours of practical work/field work per week.
Credit Point: It is the product of grade point and number of credits for a course.
Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) is a measure of academic performance of student/s in a semester.
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is a measure of overall cumulative performance of a student over all semesters.
The minimum credit required for B. Arch. degree is 240 credits. The lower and upper limit for course credits registered in a semester by a student are:

AKTU / UPTU ATTENDANCE RULE B.Arch.
A B.Arch student is required to attend all the lectures, tutorials, practicals and other activities. A short fall in attendance can be condoned up to 25% on medical grounds or for other genuine reasons beyond the control of students.
Attendance can be condoned up to 15% for a student can be given by Head of Institution, provided that he/she has been absent with prior permission of the Head of the institution.
The attendance shall be counted from the date of admission in the college or start of academic session whichever is later.
B. Arch. EXAMINATION
The performance of a B. Arch. degree student will be evaluated by 1) continuous class assessment and 2) end semester examination.
The continuous assessment (Sessional marks): It shall be based on class tests, assignments / tutorials, quizzes / viva-voce and attendance.
The end semester examination: It shall be any combination of written papers, practicals and viva-voce, inspection of certified course work in classes and laboratories, project work, design reports etc.
AKTU / UPTU PASSING MARKS Criteria B. Arch. degree
It is mandatory for a student to earn the required credits as mentioned in each semester.
(a) Theory paper Subject plus sessional marks plus ‘Practical/ viva-voce’ examination: minimum passing marks are 45% (. i.e. Minimum Passing Grade is “D”) of the maximum marks prescribed in the University Examination with a condition that min. marks in theory paper plus sessional should be 50%.
(b) Practical/Internship/Project/Viva-voce examination marks: minimum passing marks are 50% ( i.e. Minimum Passing Grade in a course is “C”) of the maximum marks prescribed for the University Examination.
The students who have not secured marks as above or the student who remains absent shall be
deemed to have failed in that subject. Student may reappear for the University examination in the
subsequent examinations. However, the Sessional marks awarded to the student/s at previous
attempt in the concerned subject will be carried forward.
ELIGIBILITY FOR PROMOTION
1 All the students will be promoted from an odd semester to the next even semester.
2 For promotion from even semester to the next odd semester (i.e. of the next academic
year) the student has to secure 30 credits in the immediately preceding two semesters
including theory and practical credits.

3 A student shall be declared pass only on securing D or above grades in all subjects and minimum Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) is 6.0.
4 Student himself can decide to abandon the performance of any or both the semesters of
same academic year and reappear in abandoned semester examination.
AKTU CARRY OVER SYSTEM
A candidate will be required to appear in those theory papers / practicals during respective end semester exams in which he/she failed.
A candidate shall be required to exercise his/her choice of minimum theory papers in which he/she desires to appear in the examination for improvement to secure min. SGPA 6.0
CONVERSION OF GRADES INTO PERCENTAGE
Conversion formula for the conversion of CGPA into Percentage
CGPA Earned x 10 = Percentage of marks scored.
example: CGPA Earned 7.3 x 10 = 73.0%
AKTU / UPTU SCRUTINY AND REVALUATION
Scrutiny shall be allowed in only theory papers.
Revaluation of theory/practical papers is permitted only with certain conditions as laid down by university.
AWARD OF SESSIONAL MARKS
Sessional marks for theory subjects, practicals and project shall be awarded as follows:
(a) Theory Subjects :
(i) 30 % of total theory marks with two mid-term tests of equal weightage.
(ii) 70% of total theory marks. through assessment of Tutorial/ Assignment/ Quizzes/ Attendance
(b) Make-up test may be held only for those students who could not appear in any one of
mid-term class tests due to genuine reasons for which the prior permission from the Head
of Institution/College was taken. The syllabus for the make-up test shall be the whole
syllabus covered by the subject teacher upto that time.
AWARD OF MARKS FOR PRACTICAL TRAINING, THESIS MARKS
These marks shall be awarded by a committee consisting of following members:
(i) An Architect Director / Dean / Principal / Head of the Department / Professor of the
parent institution.
(ii) An Architect Director / Principal / Head of the Department / Professor of other than
the parent institution (affiliated to APJAKTU, Lucknow).
(iii)An Eminent Architect from the profession with at least 15 years of field experience.
Further the Practical Training Coordinator will act as facilitator.
The examination marks in Thesis shall be awarded by jury panel consisting of following
examiners:
(i) An Architect Director / Dean / Principal / Head of the Department of the parent
institution.
(ii) The Thesis guide.
(iii) An Architect Director / Principal / Head of the Department / Professor of other than
the parent institution.
(iv)An Eminent Architect from the profession with at least 15 years of field experience.
Further the Thesis Coordinator will act as facilitator.
These marks shall be awarded as follows:
The sessional marks in Practical Training in VII semester and Thesis in IX and X semsters shall be awarded as per the distribution of marks at various stages mentioned in detailed syllabus.
